Neville Day 2022

Neville day has been celebrated uninterrupted for over 100 years by the descendants of the huge Nanna family of Koko, Delta State. It was the day of Chief Nanna’s return from exile, on August 8th, 1906, and the celebration is marked by dances and speeches in the Museum grounds. William Neville was a close friend of Chief Nanna and an advocate for his release as a character witness during Nanna’s trial. He was an agent of the firm Elder Dempster & Co. based in Lagos and Bonny, Nigeria. In 1891 he co-founded the Bank of British West Africa with Sir Alfred Lewis Jones, the shipping magnate.
